With this kind of freedom to install third-party titles, the choice of games on Steam Deck seems almost limitless. Thankfully, you can still connect some of the best Steam Deck accessories like joypads, mice, or keyboards if needed. It's not impossible, but compared to games verified for Steam Deck, it's unlikely that non-Steam games will natively support every input, and some controls might not work as expected. Some titles might not have box art or descriptions but can be launched as if they were part of your collection. In addition to a stable Debian base, SteamOS features various third-party drivers and updated graphics stack, a newer Linux kernel with long-term support, and a custom graphics compositor designed to provide a seamless transition between Steam, its games and the SteamOS system overlay. Now you're done, and you can find these extra games under the non-Steam section of your Steam Deck library. You can take a few additional steps to have them appear in the library of your Steam Deck alongside your usual purchases. After a few seconds, your screen from the Steam Deck should show up on your TV without any problems, and you can navigate around as you normally would (although depending on your screen size, the proportions of the display may look off, which is something Valve is working on).Installing extra games is great, but booting into the desktop mode whenever you want to play them isn't too efficient. Once you’ve plugged it in, if your TV doesn’t automatically recognize the device, head to your TV’s inputs and choose the HDMI port it’s plugged into. When plugging your Steam Deck into a TV, we recommend using a wireless external controller connected to the Deck via Bluetooth so you can sit farther away from the screen. Your Steam Deck’s screen will be turned off while it is connected to an external screen. I used this one from Anker without any problems, but if you’re planning a long session, you will likely want one with pass-through so the Deck will charge at the same time.
